Lunar Eclipse, Saturn and Regulus

Posted by Justin Haaheim (New Haven, CT, United States) on 21 February 2008 in Plant & Nature.

The full lunar eclipse accompanied by Saturn and the star Regulus, which happened last night from 8:43 pm EST until 12:09 am EST. This shot was taken at 11:08, just after the official total eclipse stage when the moon was entering back into the partial eclipse. 5 second exposure at f/5.6, highly cropped since I was shooting at 55mm. Taken from East Rock Park to avoid some light pollution, though the view earlier from the Long Island Sound was pretty cool.

See Nasa and Wikipedia for more info on the eclipse, and Ragesoss' flickr page for a great detail shot taken from West Hartford. And if anyone felt like buying me some beautiful telescopic lens, my shot would look like this from March 4th, 2007 by Eva Seidenfaden.
